The Kalahari Desert

This is my last place and it is not like anything I have seen before. I am at the Kalahari Desert. The ground is an orangey red colour and there are huge sand masses that are shaped by the wind. It is very hot here and it looks like it hasn’t rain in years. I can see a few animals here. I can see some nests in trees that are home to some chirping birds. The temperature is hot in the day but gets a bit cold at night.

Tribal people actually live in the Kalahari Desert. The living is hard because there is not much water there and they have to keep moving their stock because there is not much food for the animals to eat.

The Serengeti Grassland

This is my ninth stop and I am I the Serengeti Africa. I went on safari tour though the grassland I could see many animals such as Elephants, Lions, leopards and Buffalos. It is very humid and dry and there is little water. I could hear all the native birds chirping away a happy song.
In the afternoon I took a balloon ride to see the Grasslands to see the view from the top. I was the most amazing you could see the herds of animals running across the grasslands.

Loads of tourist comes to the Serengeti each year and there are lots of companies that take tourists out. There are native tribes who live in the Serengeti, including the Maasai, who are a warrior tribe. They mostly keep cattle, but they also hunt for animals and birds.

The Nile, Egypt

I am in the Nile River region in Egypt on my trip around the world. This place is so different from the other places I have been. The Nile is the longest river in the world. There are lots of cities and towns along the Nile River. Many of them were set up because people farmed the very fertile soil which surrounded the Nile River and the Nile Delta. I took a cruise up the river, starting from Cairo; there were many trees and birds and houses along the water. It is hot very hot here even if it is winter. And when it is winter it rains a lot and the Nile sometimes floods.

Everyday, heaps of tourists come to see the Nile River, with many boats taking tourists up and down the river. The Nile provides water for the villages and it also provides fertile land. Many Egyptians live near the Nile.

Jungfrau, Switzerland

This is my seventh place I am going on my trip around the world and have arrived in Jungfrau Switzerland. It is the tallest mountain in Europe. I took a train ride to the top to see the excellent view over Switzerland. There was snow everywhere and it was very glary. I went to see the ice palace at the highest part of Europe. It has a room made out of ice where there are many carved ice sculptures.
Many locals and tourists come up to Jungfrau to see the views of spectacular mountains, walk on a glacier and toboggan down the glacier. There are plenty of ski fields here too where skiers come to enjoy some of the best ski slopes in the world.

The Amazon, South America

The Amazon…I am so excited to be here. I left at 8:00 in the morning and took a guided tour of the rainforest. The Amazon’s weather is very unpredictable…one minute it is raining and the other it is hot and humid. The Amazon gets about 1770–2500mm of rain a year. The tour guide was telling us about how the Rainier season can be considered a good time to visit this rainforest because there tends to be more animals. More rain brings higher levels of fruit production, which means that many species are more active and begin their reproductive cycles.
The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. It is all f
ull of green vegetation. The Amazon rainforest contains thousands of different species of birds, hundreds of reptiles, mammals, insects and countless plants and trees, many of which are unique to the region. There are huge rivers that flow into lakes. It is one of the most breathtaking places in the world.
The Amazon rainforest covers seven million square kilometers, of which five and a half million square kilometers is rainforest. A lot of people are pulling down many rare species of trees. There are a number of indigenous people who live in the Amazon rainforest. Among them are the Barasana people (who live in the east) and the Tucano people (who live in north-west). They are tribal people who grow crops and hunt for food and wild plants.

The North Pole, Alaska

I am in Alaska on my way around the world. I am almost frozen it is so cold! I am wearing so many layers it is not funny. The temperature is mostly always below freezing. I went on a hike and there was white snow everywhere. The landscape is mostly mountains, valleys and ice glaciers. I haven’t seen a penguin yet because unlike Antarctica the arctic does not have any penguins.
People have lived in the North Pole for thousands of years. Many scientists from all over the world go to Alaska to research here about how global warming is affecting the temperature of the North Pole. Alaska also attracts many tourists wanting to come see the home of Santa Claus.

Baffin Island Coastal Tundra, Canada

This is fourth location on my trip around the world. I am in Baffin coastal tundra, Canada. Baffin Island is the fifth biggest island in the world and a lot of the island is covered by Tundra. When I got there it was freezing and very foggy. I went on a hike around the area I saw lots of different landscapes, there are mountains, valleys, and many fjords. I couldn’t see many plants or trees. I could only see a few animals, the tour guide said that they were artic hares and foxes.
Many archaeologists come to this tundra to dig up remains and do scientific research on this tundra. Also a lot of tourists come here to see this amazing place (some crazy tourist even go base jumping).

The Great Barrier Reef

This is my third destination on my trip around the world and I'm very excited to be at the Great Barrier Reef. I arrived in Townsville, Queensland yesterday. The weather is hot and humid most of the year round.
I caught a snorkelling boat out to the reef this morning. The boat stopped in a place where we could dive off. It was spectacular. I can see why the Great Barrier Reef is listed as World Heritage site and why so many tourists come to see it. The water is clear and it was a good temperature for snorkelling. The creatures were beautiful and the coral was very colourful. When I was snorkelling all the tropical fishes were coming up to me.

The Great Barrier Reef attracts thousands of tourists each year from all over the world to see the amazing coral and sea creatures. Many tour guides take tourists to show them the reef. They take them out to parts of the reef where they can snorkel, dive or go in underwater sea vessels. Scientist and marine biologist also use the reef for different types of research.

Yellow Water Wetlands, Kakadu Australia

This is my second stop on my world tour. I arrived in Kakadu to see the yellow water wetlands. There are lots of birds that are finding food in the wetlands, and I can hear them chirping away happily. There are lots of thing swimming around in the murky water and I even saw a crocodile! It was sunny and the sky was blue.
While at the yellow water wetlands you can do some bird watching. I went on the cruise which goes up the Yellow Water Billabong. While on the cruise I saw some men doing some fishing in the ponds of the wetlands, although they were not allowed to keep the fish. Apparently, there are some aboriginals who still use the wetlands to find food.
